Enhancing Engagement, Consistency and Follow Through in Mental Health Services

Research shows that as many as 57% of therapy clients do not return after their initial session. Another 37% to 45% only attend therapy a total of 2 times. One identified area where clinicians can improve is in providing assessment measures and overcoming  “… the numerous obstacles to clients completing out-of-session activities.” (Schwartz, 2010).  The presenters for this session will discuss the importance of client engagement between sessions and explore ideas, including incorporating technology, to better assist counselors in achieving improved client engagement and progress.

 Learning Objectives

Attendees will be able to:
  1. Identify ways to help clients engage more effectively between sessions.
  2. Discuss the role of measurement and transparency in client progress.
  3. Describe opportunities to utilize technology for increased client engagement.
